October 27, 1999

The Rocket clinched the World Series with a masterful performance against the Braves in game 4. Clemens allowed just one run on four hits over seven and two-thirds innings. He struck out four and walked two.

However those impressive numbers don't fully illustrative the Rocket's dominance: With two outs in the eighth the umpire blew a call on a weakly hit ground ball to first base that would have gotten Clemens out of the inning with a two-hit shutout intact entering the ninth. The Yankees' outfielders did not have to record a single out for the Rocket, who induced seventeen ground ball outs and two infield popups along with his four Ks.

This is the Rocket's first World Series ring in sixteen major league seasons.

October 16, 1999

The Rocket lost game three of the ALCS against the Red Sox in Fenway on 10/16. Clemens lasted just two plus innings, giving up five runs on six hits while walking two and striking out two.

October 9, 1999

The Rocket started off his postseason in stellar fashion, pitching seven shutout innings in a series-ending win against the Rangers on 10/9. Clemens allowed just three hits and two walks over his seven frames, while striking out two.

This was the Rocket's second career postseason victory, the first coming against the Angels in game seven of the 1986 ALCS. This also marks the first time since 1986 that a team the Rocket has been on has won a playoff series.

September 30, 1999

The Rocket finished up the regular season in perhaps typical fashion, with a wildly uneven performance, as he lost to the Orioles on 9/30. Clemens, pitching on six days rest due to an of day and a rain-out, struggled mightily with his control, walking five and hitting three batters in six innings. He allowed three of his five runs in the third in which he walked the first three batters he faced and brougt in a run by hitting a batter with the bases loaded. Clemens struck out nine.

The Rocket is scheduled to start game three of the Yankees-Rangers series on Saturday, 10/9.

September 23, 1999

The Rocket improved to 14-9 on the year with a win over the White sox on 9/23. Clemens pitched six and a third innings, giving up two runs on six hits while striking out six and walking four.

September 17, 1999

The Rocket pitched a great game, getting his 13th win of the year as he defeated the Indians on 9/17. Clemens pitched seven innings, giving up two runs on just three hits. He walked four and struck out six.

The win pulled the Yankees even with the Indians for best record in the AL.

September 12, 1999

The Rocket pitched an outstanding game, but poor run support and lousy defense cost him a loss against the Red Sox on 9/12. Clemens final line was three earned runs on five hits over seven plus innings, with three walks and seven strikeouts.

The Rocket gave up one run on just two hits through seven. Consecutive singles on the first two pitches put runners on first and third in the eighth. Clemens then induced a pop-up to shallow center field that Bernie Williams misplayed to score one run. Two batters later, with Clemens out of the game, Williams made a throwing error that scored another run.

The Rocket's record against his former team now stands at 3-1.

September 6, 1999

The Rocket pitched poorly and fell to 12-8 on the year as he lost to the Angels on 9/6. Clemens' control was awful as he walked four and hit a batter, needing 103 pitches to complete just four and two-thirds innings. He gave up five runs on six hits while striking out three.

September 1, 1999

The Rocket threw well, but got hurt by some opportune hitting from the opposition as he lost to the As on 9/1. Clemens gave up five runs on six hits and four walks over seven innings. He struck out nine for the second consecutive game.

August 27, 1999

The Rocket pitched a great game, defeating the Mariners on 8/27. Clemens threw eight scoreless innings, giving up four hits while walking three and striking out nine.

Clemens allowed one hit and two walks in the first before getting out of a bases loaded jam. He then settled down, allowing just three hits and a walk over the next seven innings. The nine Ks are the most the Rocket has had in the second half, and the second most he's has as a Yankee.

August 21, 1999

Clemens pitched poorly and suffered his sixth defeat of the season, losing to the Twins on 8/21. Facing the team he held scoreless for 8 2/3 innings five days earlier, the Rocket struggled, giving up five runs on nine hits over 6 2/3 innings. He walked two and struck out seven.

August 16, 1999

The Rocket pitched hi best game of the second half, defeating the Twins on 8/16 and improving to 11-5 on the year.

Clemens faced the minimum of 24 batters through eight innings, giving up three hits and a walk in that stretch, while benefiting from two double plays, a batter caught stealing and a runner thrown out advancing. He was lifted after giving up a single with two out in the ninth. His final line was no runs on four hits and a walk while striking out two over eight and two-thirds innings.

August 10, 1999

The Rocket pitched five good innings but got hit hard in the sixth and lost to the As on 8/10. Clemens gave up five runs on nine hits through six and a third innings. He struck out four and walked five.

The Rocket held the As scoreless on four hits through five innings, but he gave up four runs on three hits and a walk in the sixth. He gave up a solo homerun in the seventh, and was pulled after giving up a single and a walk with one out.

August 5, 1999

The Rocket struggled early but settled down and picked up his 10th victory of the season, beating the Mariners on 8/5. Clemens gave up two runs in the first and two runs in the third before settling down and holding the Mariners offense scoreless through seven. His final line was six hits, four walks and three strikeouts.

July 31, 1999

Roger Clemens pitched poorly and ended up with a no-decision against the Red Sox on 7/31. He went just five innings, giving up four runs on five hits and three walks while striking out just two. Clemens started the sixth but was lifted after giving up a hit to Garciaparra on the first pitch.

July 25, 1999

The Rocket pitched well, but ended up with a no-decision against the Indians on 7/25. Clemens held baseball's best offense to one run on five hits over seven innings while striking out six and walking three. He left after the seventh with the score tied 1-1.

Clemens changed his uniform number from 12 to 22, the number worn by his son Kody in little league.

July 20, 1999

The Rocket battled his way to his ninth victory of the year, defeating the Expos on 7/20. Clemens went seven innings, giving up four runs (three earned) on nine hits. He struck out six and walked three.

July 15, 1999

The Rocket had another poor outing, losing to the Braves on 7/15. Clemens gave up six runs in six plus innings, striking out three and walking five. He entered the seventh trailing 3-1, and was removed with one run in and runners on first and second, both of which later scored.

July 9, 1999

The Rocket finished up a decidedly mediocre first half of the 1999 season with a loss to the Mets on 7/9. Clemens gave up five runs on nine hits over six innings. He walked two and struck out four.

July 4, 1999

The Rocket pitched solidly, but ended up with a no-decision against the Orioles on 7/4. Clemens gave up three runs on six hits through six and a third innings while walking one and striking out four. He left the game leading 3-2 with a man on first and one out in the seventh, but the bullpen blew the save and gave up the lead as the Yankees eventually fell 7-3.

June 29, 1999

The Rocket pitched his best game of the season, shutting out the Tigers on 6/29. Clemens gave up eight hits while holding the Tigers scoreless in his first complete game of the year. He walked one and struck out eight. Clemens finished the game in style, striking out the side in the ninth.

This was the 115th complete game and 45th shutout of the Rocket's career.

June 23, 1999

Roger Clemens struggled, but improved to 7-2 on the season with a victory over the Devil Rays on 6/23. Clemens lasted just five innings and gave up four runs (three earned) on ten hits. He struck out six and walked two.

June 17, 1999

The Rocket threw perhaps the best he has all season, but took a hard luck loss to the Rangers on 6/17. Clemens gave up three runs on nine hits over seven innings while striking out a season high 13 (10 in the first four innings) and walking one.

The game was tied 2-2 in the seventh when a weakly hit ball down the third base line went for an infield single (the fourth of the night against Clemens) and brought in what turned out to be the winning run. The Rocket is now 6-2 on the season.

June 12, 1999

The Rocket survived a shaky start to improve to 6-1 on the year, defeating the Marlins on 6/12. Clemens gave up three runs on four hits in the first, then held the Marlins to one run on three hits over the next five innings. His final line was four runs on seven hits with five walks and five strikeouts in six innings. Playing in a National League park, Clemens also took his turn in the batting order, going 0-3 with 3 Ks.

June 6, 1999

Roger Clemens had his American League record 20 game winning streak broken as he lost to the Mets on 6/6. The Rocket, who had not lost since May 29, 1998, had one of the worst games of his career, giving up seven runs on eight hits in just two and two-thirds innings. He struck out three and walked two.

The 20 game streak ties Clemens for the third longest in Major League history. His three strikeouts gave him 3194 for his career, and moved him into ninth place all-time.

June 1, 1999

The Rocket extended his AL record winning streak to 20 games, defeating the Indians on 6/1. Clemens gave up three runs on seven hits over six and two-thirds innings. He struck out four and walked two.

May 27, 1999

The Rocket improved to 4-0 on the year by defeating the Red Sox on 5/27. Clemens gave up one run on just two hits while striking out seven and walking three over seven innings. The win extended his American League record winning streak to 19 games and moved Clemens into a tie for 48th place all-time with 237 career wins.

The Rocket is now 3-0 with a 1.64 ERA in five starts against his former team.

May 22, 1999

The Rocket returned from the disabled list in record fashion, defeating the White Sox and setting a new American League record for consecutive victories with 18. Clemens pitched six innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on six hits while striking out four and walking one.

May 13, 1999

Information has been scarce on the status of the Rocket's next start. One report had him returning to the lineup on Saturday (5/15), but an AP report now says he will not return until next week "at the earliest."

May 8, 1999

The Rocket threw off the mound for about 15 minutes yesterday, and is tentatively scheduled to start Thursday (5/13) against the Angels. According to the AP report, his start is pending the successful completion of fielding drills on Sunday and another throwing session on Tuesday.

April 29, 1999

The Yankees placed Roger Clemens on the 15-day disabled list today with an injured left hamstring. Clemens originally injured the hamstring while running on April 11th, and aggravated it during his start on the 27th. See the AP story for more details.

April 27, 1999

The Rocket gave up five runs in just two innings, but was bailed out by his teammates as he escaped with a no-decision against the Rangers on 4/27, keeping his 17 game winning streak intact.

Clemens gave up five runs on four hits and two walks in the first inning. He returned to pitch a 1-2-3 second inning, but then left the game with an injured left hamstring. No decision has been announced on whether he will make his next scheduled start on Sunday in Kansas City.

April 21, 1999

The Rocket tied the American League record with his 17th consecutive decision, defeating the Texas Rangers on 4/21. Clemens gave up two runs (one earned) on four hits over seven and a third innings, while striking out six and walking four.

April 15, 1999

Roger Clemens had one of the worst starts of his career, but escaped with a no-decision against the Orioles on 4/15. Clemens lasted just three plus innings, giving up seven runs on eleven hits, including three home runs. He walked three and struck out one.

April 10, 1999

The Rocket won his home debut as a Yankee, defeating the Tigers on 4/10. Clemens pitched seven and two-thirds shutout innings, striking out eight while walking three. This was the Rocket's 16th consecutive winning decision, leaving him one short of the American League record.

April 5, 1999

The Rocket ended up with a no-decision in his Yankees debut against the As on 4/5. Clemens gave up three earned runs on four hits over six and a third innings. He struck out eight but walked five. Clemens left the game in the seventh with one out and a man on first, however the bullpen allowed three runs to score in the remainder of the inning.

February 18, 1999

Roger Clemens was traded by the Toronto Blue Jays to the New York Yankees in exchange for David Wells, Graeme Lloyd, and Homer Bush. The Rocket joins the defending world champion who set an AL record with 114 regular season wins last year. See the AP Story for more details.
